Ship’s Log: Entry No. 006 - Groundhog Day & the Turning of the Tides

No Shadow … New Season Energy.

Groundhog Day has spoken — no shadow — and just like that, the promise of spring feels a little closer. Even here in Saint John, where winter knows how to linger, there’s a subtle shift in the air. The days stretch a little longer. The light feels softer. And suddenly, we start reaching for different cups.

This moment — balanced between seasons — is one of our favourites.

At Rising Tide Tea, we see Groundhog Day not as a weather forecast, but as a mindset. A reminder that change doesn’t always arrive with a bang. Sometimes it comes quietly — in small rituals, gentle resets, and a new blend steeping in your mug.

Early February is when we begin to trade the heaviest winter comforts for teas that wake things up:

  • Bright citrus notes that cut through the cold

  • Spices that warm without weighing you down

  • Herbal blends that refresh, restore, and get you ready for what’s next

It’s the same rhythm we see in the Bay of Fundy tides — retreat, return, renewal. Winter isn’t over yet (this is the Maritimes), but the tide is turning.

So whether you believe in groundhogs or not, we’ll raise a cup to:

  • Longer days ahead

  • Fresh energy in familiar places

  • And the quiet excitement of a season just beginning to show itself

Here’s to no shadow, new intentions, and letting your next cup set the tone.

The kettle’s on.
Spring is brewing.
