Ship’s Log No. 011 - Canadian, Eh? Summer Starts Here
Canada Day may have landed on a Wednesday this year, but somehow that feels right.
No perfect long weekend. No big calendar gift. Just one day, right in the middle of everything, asking us to pause for a moment.
And maybe that is what made it special.
A quiet reset. A chance to look around. A reminder to be thankful for this country, this coast, and the communities we call home.
Now that the flags have been raised, the fireworks have faded, and July has officially arrived, it feels like summer has truly begun.
Here on the East Coast, summer has its own rhythm.
Salt air. Open windows. Country roads. Harbour walks. Backyard suppers. Fresh berries. Lake days. Camp chairs. Cool drinks. Long evenings that stretch a little later than planned.
It is the season of slowing down when we can, gathering when we are able, and enjoying the simple things that make life feel a little fuller.
Canada Day is also a reminder that local pride does not belong to one day.
It carries forward into the season ahead — in the people we support, the places we visit, the small businesses we choose, the food we share, and the everyday rituals that make home feel like home.
And yes, around here, one of those rituals might just include a cup of Canadian, Eh.
A little playful. A little proud. A fitting nod to Canada, summer, and the simple joy of raising a cup to where we live.
Enjoy it hot in the morning, iced in the afternoon, packed for the cottage, poured on the deck, or shared after a long day outside.
Canada Day may be over for another year, but the season is just getting started.
So here’s to Canada.
Here’s to the East Coast.
Here’s to local pride, summer days, and the communities that keep us connected.
Canadian, Eh? Summer starts here.
